The Rugby World Cup Authority

The Rugby World Cup (RWC) is one of the largest sporting events in the world and will be the largest event ever staged in New Zealand.

The hosting requirements for an event of this scale present significant infrastructural challenges. Temporary RWC activities and facilities will require a wide range of consents, licences and regulatory approvals that existing processes may not be suited to address.

The Rugby World Cup Authority (RWC Authority) has been established as a temporary body intended to enable applications for activities or facilities that are reasonably necessary for the smooth running of the RWC to be considered and determined under an expedited process. It will help to ensure that New Zealand can meet its hospitality and hosting requirements and can take full advantage of the opportunity that hosting this event will provide.
